SISTAR19’s Hyolyn Under Fire For Singing Along To N-Word

SISTAR19‘s Hyolyn is under fire for rapping the N-word.

Hyolyn

In English, the N-word is an ethnic, racial slur against Black people that originated as early as the 15th century and is traced back to slavery.

American civil rights organization NAACP‘s (The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) official position is that it does not condone the usage of the word “in any capacity.” Still, many African-Americans believe it’s okay to say the N-word as long as you are Black in an attempt at reclamation.

So, you will often hear Black music artists, especially rappers and Hip-Hop artists, include it in their lyrics. Consequently, many non-Black people will sing along, and some Korean music artists have faced criticism for it.

Recently, Hyolyn has been sharing photos and videos while on vacation with her friend, style director GANi. One video she uploaded via Instagram Stories was the two on a boat.

Doja Cat‘s hit song “Say So” played loudly in the video as Hyolyn rapped along. This portion of the song contains the N-word, and while she clearly rapped to the rest of the song out loud, she at least mouthed the N-word.

All of them b*tches hating I have you with me
All of my n*ggas saying you mad committed
Realer than anybody you had, and pretty
All of that body-ody, the a*s and t*tties

Fans were disappointed to see Hyolyn do this, especially considering her age and experience. She’s 33 and debuted 14 years ago, so many feel she should know better.

I better not see nobody trying to defend hyolyn saying nigga…. She knew damn well what she was saying. Especially given how long she’s been in the idol game, the people she works closely with in the states basically her whole career, and common sense. Ion wanna hear it

Netizens called Hyolyn out in the comment section of her recent Instagram post. They hope that she will apologize.

At this time, the video has not been deleted.
