Donating blood is a great thing to do to help take care of those in your community in need, but not everyone wants to, or is able to, do it. Because of this, some organizations offer certain incentives to get more people to donate blood, such as giving away gift cards, food, or other goodies. In a time when blood shortages are a real concern in some communities, it’s important to get more healthy donors willing to give their blood, especially for the less common blood types.

And it seems like the Seoul Southern Blood Center of the Korean Red Cross may have figured out just how to get their donor numbers up, thanks to the popularity of SEVENTEEN.

Beginning on January 12, thirteen centers affiliated with the Seoul Southern Blood Center began offering SEVENTEEN photocards to those who donated their blood. This was in addition to the gift certificate and hamburger set exchange voucher already provided to donors at the time.
And the response was impressive. According to reports, new blood donors increased by a whopping 68.8% during the event, and compared to the same period last year, the number of blood donors increased by 80.6%. Among these new blood donors, people in their teens and 20s (the demographics most likely to be SEVENTEEN fans) donating blood increased by 81.7%.

An official from the Korean Red Cross shared that they had only prepared 1,000 SEVENTEEN photocards for the event, but that they had already ordered more because of the overwhelmingly positive response. Hopefully this becomes an incentive outside of just Seoul, to encourage young people to donate blood in other parts of South Korea too.
