A Former Girl Group Member’s Life Update Reminds Fans How Badly Their Company “Fumbled”

Throughout K-Pop’s history, fans feel many groups ended too soon but that the groups were not to blame. Instead, their companies or other outside forces were accused of stagnating or ending some idols’ groups or careers.

Pledis Entertainment has been partially blamed for the fates of some groups under their label, including NU’EST and After School. Another group that has come up in similar conversations is Pristin.

In 2017, the girl group Pristin debuted with “Wee Woo,” the label’s first girl group since Hello Venus (its joint venture with Fantagio).

Most group members appeared on Produce 101, with two members, Nayoung and Kyulkyung, debuting as members of I.O.I. While it seems like the group would have seen great success, Pristin only released one more mini album and a subunit release (Pristin V) before their disbandment in May 2019 after more than a year of hiatus.

One of the group members, Kyla (also known as Kyla Massie), went on hiatus just after the group’s final release for health issues unrelated to the hate she faced over her appearance. Kyla would later confess that “a lot of things happening behind the scenes” led to the group’s disbandment.

Since then, Kyla has opened her own YouTube channel and released her own album.

Recently, the singer shared some exciting news that couldn’t help but remind fans how Pledis “fumbled” the group.

On her less frequently used TikTok account, Kyla shared a video, speaking about her time as an idol and mentioning Pristin’s debut date of March 23, 2017.

She said that her contract was a standard 7-year one and that it would have ended on March 24, 2024. Kyla shares that her upcoming college graduation is set for March 24, 2024, the very same day her contract would have ended, remarking on the “funny coincidence.

While this was a moment of serendipity, and fans were glad to hear of her success, many remarked on how great the group were despite their alleged mismanagement.

Congratulations to Kyla on her upcoming graduation, and we wish her the best in her future endeavors!
