The Rise of REAPER7MAN in the Era of Rappers like $uicideboy$ and Night Lovell

24hiphop: Yo, REAPER7MAN! Thanks for taking the time to chat with me, man. Let’s jump right in: what’s the story behind the name?

REAPER7MAN: When I first started rapping, I came out as Kiddo, then I had the idea to come out as R7M, which I saw as the 7 being an upside-down L, which are my initials. And then it clicked: REAPER7MAN. I keep the 7 silent, and it represents a scythe. I still use R7M for short for REAPER7MAN.

24hiphop: Makes sense. So, what sparked your first flame of musical passion?

REAPER7MAN: It actually started with a guitar. Then, when I got my first laptop, I found a free recording software on the internet, and I just started rapping. There might still be a Kiddo CD out there somewhere.

24hiphop: Who were your musical heroes back then?

REAPER7MAN: Lil Wayne, no doubt, and he still is. I used to make mixtapes with my music, Wayne, Jeezy, Gorilla Zoe, and Three 6 Mafia.

24hiphop: Let’s talk about your sound now. How would you describe it?

REAPER7MAN: It depends on the mood, but most of the time, it’s horrorcore, gangster, alternative rock, rap if I had to describe it.

24hiphop: So, how does the magic happen? Your creative process, I mean.

REAPER7MAN: I’ve got tons of lyrics in my notes on my phone that I will just randomly think of. I usually go through my friend for my beats, then it’s just like working a puzzle. I can put together a whole album in a day, but mixing and mastering take time.

24hiphop: Dream collabs? Spill the beans!

REAPER7MAN: The list is long, man. $uicideboy$, Pouya, Shakewell, Ghostemane, Germ, Night Lovell, the OG Lil Wayne, Terror Reid, Kodak Black, Lil Uzi Vert, Three 6 Mafia, maybe Lyrical Lemonade, and if we are going all out, let’s collab with Wendy’s for unlimited nuggets, fries, and their lemonade.

24hiphop: Would you like to open for anyone in particular?

REAPER7MAN: $uicideboy$, hands down. Seeing Sematary open for them was fire; gotta give him props.

24hiphop: Any hidden talents? And if it wasn’t for music, what would you be doing?

REAPER7MAN: I can do a pretty good impression of Scooby-Doo, and I would be hustling, but probably not your regular 9-5.

24hiphop: Speaking of music, how’s the internet changed the game for underground artists like you?

REAPER7MAN: It’s two-faced. Yeah, it allows us to build our own empires without labels. But it’s always shifting; you’ve got to stay adaptable. Mainstream and label puppets? They’re all about the cash. I come from the trenches, the underground, where hustle fuels the music. It’s win or fade away.

24hiphop: Words of wisdom from REAPER7MAN?

REAPER7MAN: Jelly Roll said it best: “The windshield is bigger than the rearview mirror for a reason.”

24hiphop: What’s next for REAPER7MAN?

REAPER7MAN: Personal goals, man. I won’t stop until I prove myself, not just to the world, but to myself. This is just the beginning, trust me, the reaper’s coming.
