JYP Wants To Take Down His Viral “Slick Back” Challenge Video

Last month, J.Y. Park (also known as JYP and Park Jin Young), the founder of JYP Entertainment, went viral for his “Slick Back” challenge. Recently, he shared that he wanted to take down the video.

The Slick Back challenge is a dance trend inspired by the Jubi Slide that looks like the feet are floating while gliding. It’s called the Slick Back challenge due to the use of the song called “A Pimp Named Slickback” by LAKIM.

Many celebrities and influencers joined the challenge—J.Y. Park being one of them.

The post went viral, gaining over 36.2 million views and 1.7 million likes as of this article. However, not all of the responses were favorable.

Netizens left comments saying, “There’s finally something J.Y. Park isn’t good at” and “I’M GONNA CRY DADDY JYP OPPA WHAT IS THIS.” Others supported him saying, “Okay no but why he kinda ate though?!” and “I didn’t know I needed this .”

Even his own JYP artists commented on it, such as Sunmi, who said, “You have such silky hair” and TWICE’s Jeongyeon who straightforwardly stated, “I think you need to practice a little more, PD JYP….

On November 7, J.Y. Park appeared on MBC‘s popular talk show Radio Star and addressed how he felt about the responses to his viral Slick Back video.

During the interview, singer Kim Bum Soo challenged J.Y. Park to the Slick Back challenge. As soon as J.Y. Park heard the words “Slick Back challenge,” he immediately responded with, “Ah, stop it.

He then shared that he never expected the video to go viral and that he wanted to take down the video. However, something was stopping him.

I really want to take down that video. I can’t suddenly take it down though because that would seem uncool. I never knew I would be made fun of by the entire nation with my body.

J.Y. Park then mentioned “GANG,” a song by his agency’s former singer Rain that went viral three years after its release for its “tacky” and “cheesy” concept. It became a viral meme in 2020 as people parodied the choreography and lyrics.
