Netizens Criticize YG Entertainment For Opening Auditions So Soon After Debuting BABYMONSTER

It has only been a week since YG Entertainment‘s new girl group, BABYMONSTER, debuted, and netizens are convinced that the label is already giving up on them.

Their debut song, “BATTER UP”, underwhelmed many fans who were hopeful that the new girl group would bring something new and fresh to the K-Pop world. But a popular consensus was that the song was not only lackluster, but also lacks the “star quality” that a group needs to succeed. Not to mention, their stylists were accused of cultural appropriation in the music video.

People were also confused by the lack of promotions that BABYMONSTER was given for their debut single, “BATTER UP”, which included not performing on music shows and little to no activity from the members on social media.

All of this has led to a poor opinion towards YG Entertainment in regard to how they’re treating the young members of the girl group, and a recent post from the label has only soured netizens’ opinions even more.

BABYMONSTER

On the YG Entertainment audition Instagram page, the company recently shared a post announcing that they will be holding auditions in early 2024.

Starting on January 13, they’ll be traveling to eight different cities in South Korea, starting with Jeju and moving on to Gwangju, Jeonju, Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, Wonju, and Seoul. Applicants that were born between the years of 2006 to 2013 are open to apply regardless of gender or nationality, with the categories for the auditions being singing, dancing, rapping, and visual.

But reactions to the audition announcement have been heavily critical towards YG Entertainment. Many feel like the company should be focusing more on BABYMONSTER’s promotions instead of already planning their next generation of trainees, and the comments on a forum post about the topic are particularly harsh.

How do you feel about this new audition opportunity happening so soon after BABYMONSTER’s debut?
