Aespa, the top fourth-generation girl group who debuted with an intriguing metaverse concept, recently sat down with Canadian singer-songwriter Grimes, who herself has a digital avatar, and together, they interviewed each other about their music, the media, the metaverse, and more.

The artists identified themselves as mutual fans, with Grimes stating she’s loved K-Pop for over a decade.
Grimes added that she’s particularly a fan of old-school K-Pop with an “allegiance” to BIGBANG‘s G-Dragon and former BIGBANG’s T.O.P, as well as former 2NE1‘s CL, who Grimes noted she was close to.

Grimes revealed she became interested in aespa before they even debuted after seeing their use of “æ,” and considers the group her “favorite visuals in the game,” praising the talented members for the “innovative, awesome” stuff they’ve done.
Giselle stated that NingNing, in particular, is a huge fan of Grimes, and the group’s maknae revealed she discovered Grimes through her artwork.
NingNing, recognizing that Grimes has many tattoos, wondered if the musician and artist designed them herself.
Grimes admitted she rarely designs her own body art, opting to allow her selected tattoo artist to “do their best work on [her].” Grimes, in turn, wanted to know if any of the aespa members had tattoos, and NingNing revealed she had three, which she designed herself.
Grimes noticed how tiny the tattoos were, hilariously exclaiming they were the “smallest tattoos [she had] ever seen.”
NingNing replied, saying, “We can’t do the big ones. I love tattoos, but I just can have a small one,” seemingly implying that the group may be restricted on what size tattoos they’re allowed to have while under their current contract with SM Entertainment.

As some senior SM Entertainment artists have larger tattoos, perhaps guidelines may change for the group in the future.
