Released today (October 24), the new single is the latest to be released from the rock duo’s forthcoming album, ‘God Games’. It follows on from previous critically acclaimed singles: ‘New York’, ‘LA Hex’, and ‘103’.
While the previous singles to be taken from the LP see members Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince explore themes of personal and societal anxieties, ‘Wasterpiece’ instead takes an alternate approach, and sees the duo introduce a more seductive bravado.
“You’re VIP in the hall of fame / I’m RIP on the walk of shame,” they sing in their self-deprecating lyrics. The track also comes with a Noel Paul-directed music video which sees Mosshart and Hince witness a tantrum while out golfing.
‘God Games’ is out this Friday (October 27) via Domino. Pre-order it here and check out the new single below.
As well as sharing their new single, The Kills have also surprised fans by announcing details of a US tour, set to kick off next year.
Taking place toward the start of the year, the duo will launch the 30-upcoming tour dates with an opening slot in Santa Ana, California on February 2, before playing a gig in Santa Cruz, California the following day.
From there, the tour will continue throughout the month with gigs across Oregon, Minnesota, Utah, Illinois, Michigan, New York and more, before moving into the latter half of the scheduled dates the following month.
These will begin with a stop in Washington DC on March 1, and see the band continue playing live throughout the remainder of the month, making stops in North Carolina, Georgia, Texas, and Arizona. The final three shows of the ‘God Games’ tour will see Mosshart and Hince return to California, with three back-to-back shows in Los Angeles, Sacramento and Oakland (March 14-16).
“Surprise! We’re going on tour AND we just released our new song ‘Wasterpiece’ ahead of the release of God Games this Friday,” the band wrote, announcing the tour dates on their Instagram page.
Presale tickets will be available tomorrow (October 25) at 10am local and fans can sign up for access here. The general sale of tickets commences on Friday (October 27) and will be available here. Check out a full list of tour dates in the post below.
In other Kills news, the duo spoke with NME earlier this summer and revealed the inspiration behind the forthcoming album – including the fresh creative approach that made it possible.
“We had all these demos, and this record was burning a hole in us,” said Mosshart. “There was really no fussing… We were just getting down great takes of everything. It felt good and exciting and it reminded me so much of making our first record.”
Hince, however, detailed having a “different” experience writing the album, saying: “Frame of mind is a weird thing because we’re quite happy with the record. When you look at it in retrospect you imagine all your faults, mistakes, hesitations, stresses and tantrums were all meant to be.”
“I was terrified because there was so little guitar,” he added. “I would hope that I’d be daring enough to do it again. Being forced to make decisions on the spot rather than labouring these ideas over and over again. It came out really good.”
